I had the privilege of taking in a session at the North Island Writers Conference this past weekend. I missed out on the poetry session as it was over booked, and being the last one in, I was the first one out. As it turned out, there was enough interest in poetry to offer a second session, which is a good sign for poetry in the valley. However, the session I did attend was excellent and my wife attended another that she felt was very worthwhile. My session was Social Media for Authors: Building Online Community. It was conducted by Michelle Sims who is the Web Manager at Orca Book Publishers and an instructor at North Island College. She developed Orca’s first Social Media Strategy for Authors. Michelle emphasized that social media should be to connect authors with their communities. The marketing and sale of books is secondary. It has renewed my commitment to first making a difference for my fellow BPD sufferers. I do have an important message to give in the field of Mental Wellness especially with its unique connection with the art of poetry.

Dorothea attended the session, Producing a Great Book and Mastering the Fear of Marketing conducted by Craig Shemitt and Greg Salisbury. This session was very timely as she has just completed the rough copy of a book she has titled Life Had Other Plans which follows her journey to spiritual consciousness.

Kudos to everyone responsible for this event.
