On Sunday, I visited the Denman Writers Group to carry my best wishes from Comox Valley Arts and to see what they are doing. The answer was that they are getting ready for the July festival that is usually attended by about 200 guests each summer. It is the only festival in Canada that makes a point of giving air time to local writers. Unfortunately there were no poetry presenters, but the prose short stories were delightful, and at times very poetic. They ranged from humorous and yet tragic memories of a social worker involved with homeless shelters, to a young woman living a life of fantasy as she dresses up each day in a different persona with clothes purchased from Salvation Army Thrift Stores. It was a delightful Sunday afternoon. If you haven’t done so yet, you can still register for the festival. To register: www.
And if you are a poet, please contact them and join the group.
