To reach true self-actualization requires belief. A fascinating new field of science has revealed an amazing relationship among our biology, psychology, and spirituality. It is called epigenetics. The main premise is that our environment controls the expression of our genes which in turn creates the proteins needed by our bodies. The environment includes the chemicals that are absorbed by the cell membranes. These chemicals in turn are produced by our own nervous system that acts in coordination with the brain’s production of emotions. These emotions  trigger the secretion of hormones. The neurotransmitters from the brain and the neuromodulators from our hormone system are chemicals that we create and release which in turn are absorbed by the cells of our body and our brain.  Here is the gem in this science – our belief system controls the chemicals. If we have positive beliefs we will create positive neurotransmitters and hormones resulting in the creation of positive proteins that will result in a healthy and powerful life style. It works somewhat like a placebo. If we believe we are beautiful powerful people, we will become beautiful and powerful people. The opposite is also true. There is also something called a nocebo. If we harbor negative thoughts, our bodies will create negative chemicals which in turn will create damaged proteins which may lead to cancer and a whole host of negative consequences. In conclusion, our beliefs control our thoughts and our thoughts control our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Activity 3 – Practice in the Power of Belief

Let’s put our powers of belief into practice to build the life we will truly love to live.  I suggest we look at three components:

  • Personal Development – What parts of us do we like and what parts of us would we like to change?
  • Relationships – Are we happy with our present relationships? How would we like to see them changed? Perhaps we are seeking the love of our life? Or perhaps that love needs to be refreshed and renewed?
  • Vocation or work – Do we like our present vocation? Are their things about it we would like to change? Are we feeling trapped in our present work? If time and money were not an issue, what would we really like to do?

Because this is a core part of the program, I suggest we continue this practice for the full five weeks, choosing a new goal each week. For day one, we will do a brainstorm and make a list of things we want to change or accomplish. From this brainstorm, we will select five goals that we want to work on during the course of this five week program. This is not written in stone. We may want to change it as the weeks progress but it will make a good starting point. We will prioritize the goals in order of importance and then clarify and write the first goal. We will expect your Higher Self to achieve this goal by the powers of self-love from our hearts and the access to creative imagination and energy through your souls. This week we will believe that we can achieve the goal or at least make a good beginning that we can continue to work on later.

I Suggest the Following:

  • On day one, do the brainstorm and select five goals you want to work on. Prioritize the goals and select the one you want to work on this week.
  • Ask your Higher Self for clarification. What is it that you truly want to accomplish? Be specific.
  • Of course, you will have to do your part by taking some action. You can ask the Higher Self to set a strategy for the day.
  • Each day, you can check in and note the progress and then set a new strategy for the day.
  • At the end of the week, you can summarize your progress towards the goal and check to see if there has been a paradigm shift in your powers of belief.
